Click on the title of the book and check the quality. If it says Excellent,
Good or Fair, then it isn’t PQ. If it is PQ, it will say Publisher Quality.

How do we know which books are PQ?

Hello All:

I think it's sad that a lot of books have been replaced by PQ books, because
I am well aware of how much time and effort goes into scanning and
proofreading a book. I also know that PQ books aren't always the best
quality, since a lot of the time they lack page numbers, picture
discriptions, etc. However, I think it's important to remember that the
entire purpose of BookShare and us volunteers scanning and proofreading
books is to make them accessible to those of us who have print disabilities.
And as many of you have said in the past, there are a lot of books out
there, there are a lot of tiny publishers, and it is highly unlikely that
volunteers will be replaced entirely.

Also, I would like to point out that BookShare does have a wish list that
members contribute to regularly, but that seems to be overlooked by scanners
(and by extension, proofers). Because I work with a couple of scanners, I
have been able to forward my own personal wish list, and have had to reject
only one book due to PQ versions (I have not been a volunteer as long as
some of you), but maybe it would be easier for scanners and proofers alike
to find materials if they looked through the titles on the wish list once in
a while?

As I said before, I understand the frustration felt when all your hours of
hard work are replaced with a potentially poorer version of the same book,
but please try not to lose track of why it is we (and BookShare) do what we
do.

Thank you all for all the wonderful, hard work that you do; it really does
make a difference.
