Believe me, no food will be turned down. There are a lot of people at the office who love snacks, so anything sent there will be very much appreciated! And while we're in appreciation mode, all the Bookshare employees really appreciate all the hard work that all the volunteers do. They don't always say so, but they REALLY REALLY do. I wasn't the one asking about this, but I, for one, am interested in how you do things there so I appreciate the detail you put into this message. We all appreciate everything you do! Maybe, come Christmas, I'll bake some batches of cookies and send them to you guys so you can have some snacks while you're waiting for some of those files to process! And I don't say that jokingly, either. I just might do it. Thanks for all you do! The output from the scanner is a .tif file, with each page of the book being a separate picture in the .tif file. Then I bring up the ABBYY Finereader OCR program, hit 'open image', and select a .tif file called booktitle1.tif to put into the batch (let's assume it has 212 pages). I select the next .tif file, booktitle2.tif, and put it into the batch (and I write down how many pages are in each .tif file). I put up to 10,000 pages (around 30-40 books) into the OCR program, hit the button 'read all', and walk out the door. Finereader munches away for hours, converting each page from a .tif format to a .rtf format. The next time I'm in the office, I select pages 1 to 212 from the batch and save the pages into a file named booktitle1. rtf, I select and save pages 213 to 424 into booktitle2.rtf, etc. There are a couple of notebooks with lined pages, that are packed with the names and sizes of all the books in each batch that we process. Now I have a bunch of .rtf files that I can submit to the download list. That's why I submit batches of books to the download list, instead of dribbling them in. I don't want to wait for 20 minutes while the OCR program munches on 1 book, I'd rather put a bunch of books into 1 batch, and have Finereader process them when I'm out of the office. Sorry for rambling on for so long, but you seemed to want to know the fine details. Carrie Jamie Yates wrote: Oh my gosh, 100 pages per minute scanning, 1500 pages per hour OCR.
