E, I don't know if this has any bearing on your question, but anything I scan has the end-of-line return at the end of each line. And Amber's Memoirs of Cleopatra does, too. I remove them before I send mising pages to people and also when I find them when I validate. I scan using, now an Epson 1660 and, I think, in myother place, a 14 something. And convert to Microsof Word for the Mac. If there's a setting to eliminate those, I'd be interested in knowing it. However, eliminating them as I read and replacing with a space between words brought together has become automatic with me. I don't have or find them in others' work in the middle of sentences, though.
