Hi, Shannon, and I totally agree! I just entered my third year with
Bookshare...I can't believe it's been that long!...and it really has come a
long way since then. It may not seem like it sometimes, but there are a lot
of things going on behind the scenes that we don't often see or hear about,
just like the workings of any organization. I'm not saying we should be
grateful for something that might be substandard, but I'd hardly consider
Bookshare that. It has some improvements to make, but doesn't everything?

Jana, this is so very well said and I thank you so very much for saying it!
Yeah okay Bookshare has some issues it needs to work out, but dang! I've
been a member of Bookshare for a year--just renewed for a second year and I
absolutely love it. I've read authors I can't find on NLS, been able to read
a best seller before NLS could get it out, Vanish by Gerritsen as an
example, and can carry so many books portably on my Book Port. It would be
so awesome to have Bookshare go international, but I think it will in time
and I think the Bookshare folks are doing their best for us.

I don't think it's completely fair to say that Jim's visions often come to
nothing. He has done a lot of work for the blind community, and I think
it's obvious that he truly cares about getting as much information into
alternative formats as possible. While Bookshare isn't perfect, I am
continually thrilled by the wealth of information I now have at my
fingertips that just wasn't available a few years ago. As someone who has
a
lot of visions for the things I'm involved in, I've learned that just
because it may take time for a vision to become a reality doesn't mean it
never will. Resources may not quite be in place yet, but I see no reason
why they can't be.
