Hi all,
I joined Bookshare when it was in Beta. I didn't do any volunteering,
however, because I didn't have any time, or rather, I didn't make time.
It was through my work on the Beta team that I started off with the
Volunteer List. I unsubbed for a while, but I do remember the list in
its infancy. One of my memories concerns the funniest blooper I've
ever seen online.
It was sometime during the first year of Bookshare's existence. We all
got a post from an irate woman who was in the process of subscribing to
Bookshare. She was so upset! Here is approximately what she wrote.
I'll never forget it. I'm still laughing!
"I subscribed six weeks ago and I haven't heard a word from you at all.
I don't know what's wrong with Bookshare! I think your whole
organization must be on auto-Pilate!"
Talk about Homonym Hop Toads! I'm still laughing after six years! I
remember sitting here and looking at that message char by char because
Doubletalk had pronounced auto-Pilate weirdly. When I realized what
the poor woman had done, I was absolutely undone for ten minutes!
