I don't think bookshae rules say books have to be all  in one font; there are
just some fonts that don't work; when I proofed Stephen' King's I had to use
italics to indicate what was handwritten rather than typed; since you say parts
already use italics for something else, may a bold italic could be used for
those.  Let the proofreader worry about what to do,smile
I'm a little surprised that the gold text scanned well. so often light colors
don't; what's in gold can be put in bold and black left in black
AS I say, let the proofreader figure out what to do. Just put in the comments
section, and when you're ready to submit it, post here again that there may be
some problems to bre resolved.  What's the book? I'm willing to take it if no
one else wants to tackle it, but I have one book  definitely to do first;
others that I have I think there is no hurry for.
