Books I'm proofing have that as a scanno-- the scanner ( machine, not
person) picked up something that didn't belong. and ellipse would be 3
dots, no spce

It may just be a fleck. I was thinking someone might recognize it as a
scanno meant to be something specific, but if not, I'll just delete it and
end with a period.

be the end of something a character is quoting? I normally see that
apostrophe after the period, but I think I may have seen that in a
British book once or twice. Otherwise I'd think, as Evan said, that it
might have been a fleck of something on the page when it was scanned.

sentence, is it supposed to be an ellipsis or just one period with no
