You seem to be assuming we have a proper braille translator, which we do not. We have to do the best we can with the tools we have. As it is, blank lines completely disappear from the braille versions of books. We need a way of indicating them. the asterisk seems to be the most convenient way of doing so, especially since many books use them for that very purpose already.

Putting asterisks in place of blank lines will not produce good results
with a proper braille translator. It looks at the styles you use.
Asterisks will simply clutter up the text.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll start doing that. I have been putting asterisks where there is a space between sections, though I've spaced 3 lines and put 3 asterisks in the middle, even assuming that the blanks are eliminated.

Devorah, the discussion was about blank lines after headings, not between paragraphs. Like you, I've stopped putting them there and also stopped creating indented paragraphs if they aren't already there. How much more quickly the validating goes. smile
