I do all of my editing in Word, but I can at least take care of that step in Openbook.

If the page is blank you should have the page number on it and a note in brackets saying that it is blank anyway, so when it is time to convert to RTF all the pages should have something on them.

Along the same note, does anyone know how to fix Openbook 9 using closed quotes at the beginning of a quotation? Once I convert to RTF, it is a simple matter of doing find and replace. The symbol is ^8221. In Word, I have replace straight quotes unchecked. Openbook also omits blank pages when converting to RTF. A solution is to label the page. I have discard blank pages unchecked, but is there some other option I need to adjust?

Christina,
I haverecently begun using Openbook 9 with Windows 7, and I discovered that
I'm experiencing a problem almost the reverse of yours.
Instead of Openbook adding paragraph marks at the end of many lines, it
actually omits many paragraph breaks. I have compared several pages of the Openbook text to the print text (by using my optacon) and have found that
paragraph breaks are missing in the Openbook text.

The problem does not occur when converting the file to .rtf, but the
paragraph breaks are not always present in the Openbook file.
Has anyone experienced this problem with Openbook 9 and knows what setting I
need to change to ensure that paragraph breaks are not removed?

Thanks.

Lori C.

Hi, Mayrie.
Enabling column recognition worked great! Thanks.

And, I don't even need to rescan those two books. I saved Judy S's ever so helpful instructions on getting rid of extra line breaks. It'll take me a couple minutes per document which is way better than the hour I would have
to spend rescanning them.

Hi Christina,

Have you tried enabling and/or disabling column recognition? That setting
often effects proper paragraph mark placement when using OpenBook.

Just a thought.

Hi, guys.
I have another Open Book question.
The line spacing is odd. The line of text ends where the print would...
I'm not sure how else to explain it. It doesn't wrap the way it used to. I know there's a setting in OB to fix this but I cannot find it. I vaguely
remember it was something about paragraph marks...
Is there a quick way to fix the couple of scans I already have? I'm using
OB8 with Windows7.
Thanks for any help.
Christina
