Hi all,

Elene (sp) what we are working for is to have the best quality possible. If one submits a bad scan, one that is virtually unreadable, then one does not deserve to get credit for the submission. That, IMO, is fair. After all, if you do a bad job at a work place, then you either get fired or you get a repremend . If fair scans are to remain, then there sure ought to be a horrible category, one that is not admissible. There is a very good reason why new members are restricted to excellent books unless they specify otherwise.

Since the technology exists to make good to excellent scans, even on a home computer and even by someone who is totally blind, then keeping fair scans is just not a good thing. I agree that slower growth and better quality is a good idea.

Shoot, I have a couple of scanned books here, but I wouldn't give them to Bookshare. I can read them because I don't care about errors in my own scans. But I'd never submit anything but the cleanest scans I could to Bookshare because they're for other people to read. It's like the china you use for company is different from the china you use for yourself.

I wouldn't worry about the scanners who lose points. If they lose points because their book is rejected, they will rescan the book, or scan another book and do a better job, or they will give up and cry in their beer.

Actually, there is a fourth alternative. That is, to ask for help and take a seminar in scanning techniques or find a trainer.
