Hi Sue,
I'd be willing to bet that the symbols to denote different kinds of accented
letters in Portuguese are the same in braille as those you used in French!
So, now inquiring minds know, I think.

I studied French in high school and there were symbol markings in iit too.
The text was written in Grade 1, and there weredifferent symbols for grave,
acute, etc. I wasn't complaining about Scott's post, just observing.

Hi Sue,
Our braille translators in JAWS by default read English literary braille.
In that way of writing, any accent is represented as you see it on your
braille display. Were we using the actual translation for Portuguese
braille the accent marks would look different to you. It's been at least 20
years since my study (only two semesters in college) of Portuguese, but the
a in sao is in Portuguese represented by dots 3, 4, and 5. That doesn't
help us, as Bookshare's tools use English literary braille code, but I
thought you might want to know that were you to decide to study a foreign
language, there are ways used in braille to make distinctions between the
different kinds of accent marks in the braille code for each language.
Just in case you had an interest, not to complain, correct anyone, or
anything else. I just thought you might be interested to know.

Yes, thank you, Scott. In Braille, on my display, I can't tell any
difference in acute, circumflex, and cadilla. They all look the same. But
I assume people who read this visually can tell a difference.
