Ann,

That's a great practical idea. I volunteer to help as well.

Hi Nimit et al,

The problem you are having is that many, or I might say most books for adults do contain some rough language. Others do contain violence or sexual content. These are not necessarily "adult content" books. I think you probably need to understand what Bookshare means by "Adult Content". What Bookshare means is any book that is explicit in describing love scenes, by this I mean detailed physical descriptions of love-making. Or very detailed violent scenes, stressing the details. You can say Mr. Jones was shot, or you can tell the exact damage the bullet did. As far as language goes, Bookshare is pretty liberal. Many books contain vulgar language and are not "adult content".

My best suggestion is that you might want to ask on here or on Bookshare Discuss as to a given book. Or, you could write to me, for example, and say. Ann, I am interested in X book. Do you know if it is OK for me to read? I understand that you are not allowed to read books for adults yet, and that's fine. I think what you probably need is somebody like an advisor to help you to choose good books that are not violent or too explicit. I've been reading books for a long, long time and I can help you decide what to read. If you like, I'd be happy to help you choose books to read.

<smiling> I don't think you're going to get folks to put a check in the box if their stuff is for adults but doesn't have "adult content" in it. That's why I am volunteering to help you choose books to read. Other folks on the Bookshare-Discuss list have been reading a long time too, and they may be able to help as well. Just ask us. Just write a note to the Bookshare-Discuss list and say, I'm interested in Island Of The Blue Dolphins by O'Dell. And I can tell you that this is a very good book and you will like it. It doesn't have any adult content in it at all. Or you can write and say, I am interested in Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews what do you think, and I will tell you to stay away from V.C. Andrews. She tends to write books with themes which are not suitable for children or not suitable without guidance from an adult. These are only two examples, but you see what I mean. Just ask before downloading if you are in doubt.
