Jake, you could get a job in sales and make good money at
it. (grin) You talked about a lot of the things that bother me
about Openbook and have done so for years. I was thinking about
switching to a program like Finereader Pro. With the competitive
upgrade price, it seems like I'd be better off just saving up to buy
Kurzweil. I'm definitely getting a demo. Thanks for taking the time
to answer my question and for writing such a helpful article.

Hi Monica,
From personal experience Kurzweil is the superior product in many ways, at least for the needs I have. I own a copy of both and the only time I pull up OB is to convert an ARK file to RTF, so that I can open the RTF in Kurzweil. I wrote an article on why Kurzweil is better than OpenBook and its available at the following URL:
http://www.jbrownell.com/ko.html
There are even more benefits to Kurzweil that I did not find when using my trial copy to write that article, as well version 10.0 has been released with even more features.
For anyone who has Openbook and would like to consider Kurzweil in future, a competitive upgrade is $595.

I have a couple of questions. I hope I'm not starting a debate like the Jaws versus Window Eyes thing because that's not my intent. I have had Openbook since 1991, updating it every few years or so. I have noticed that most of the people I see on here use Kurzweil. I thought I'd see a 50/50 split with Kurzweil and Openbook users. So now I'm wondering what I'm missing. Is there something that draws most of you to use Kurzweil? What prompted you to choose it as your OCR system? Thanks for any thoughts you're willing to share.
