[bksvol-discuss] A cautionary submitter's tale

Hi all,

A while back I downloaded a book called The Silk Code by Paul Levinson, based on a few reviews I'd seen. But when I got around to reading it, I was very confused -- the book in the file didn't at all resemble the plot summaries I'd read. After some confusion and poking around with Amazon summaries and Paul Levinson's web page, I concluded that the submitter had accidentally mistitled the book. The book in the file was actually Borrowed Tides, one of Paul Levinson's later books.

The point of the story, though, is that I don't actually think this was a careless submitter. The scan begins, first thing, with a series of quick blurbs by other authors about the book, the sort of thing publishers often print on dust jackets. And the very first blurb is about The Silk Code. I can see how a submitter could become confused, not knowing that it is common practice for publishers to print little blurbs about an author's previous books on the cover of new releases, in order to interest readers.

So beware, submitters, and don't be mislead . . .

(I don't recommend the book, by the way. Quite unimpressive and dull).
