I replied here to echo Courtney's thanks and praise of Larry; I've been
working with him for many years ( and thanks, Larry for your kinds words
( and not only is *The World at Arms* a wonderful and well-written ( and
of course scanned &proofed ( lol) book but the multivolume book you scanned
( also well-written) that's a history of the early of United States *I
don't remember the title but I think it covers the Revolution (or earlier?)
to 1812; Larry also scanned an equally ( and terribly written -- multi
volume series about Hitler from birth to the end ( tedious beyond belief --
I gave up proofing it and bookshare got it from the the publisher) ( but
Larry's scan was perfect (including footnotes and bibliography) and he's
done equally perfect scans of fiction; most of the light and/or romantic
fiction is proofed by his wife, Susan, who also deserves thanks and
appreciation for her excellent proofing and editorial assistance to some
of us who don't always write clearly and succinctly when we have to write
descriptions (i.e., me) . Lary has bought and scanned out-of-print and
rare books including one of the best historical fiction books I've ever
read (unfortunately I can't remember the name but if you look under is
name or mine you'll find it); and he bought and scanned the multi-volume
historical fiction series about Australia that someone requested many
years ago; That person seems to have gone and no one else seems to be
interested so Haven't proofed it but it was interesting and I think I still
have the books he sent so if anyone does want t I'll proof it. when I
finish wat I'm working on

Because I don't think our tireless volunteers get nearly the credit they
deserve. A mentor of mine recommended recently that I read the "Age Of
Roosevelt" trilogy by Arthur M. Schlesinger to better understand the
underlying conflicts and policy debates that shaped the New Deal. And I
sighed rather forlornly and thought well that's not going to happen anytime
soon. I couldn't have been more wrong. On a fancy, I went looking on
Bookshare, and Larry Lumpkin and Beverly Cory had come through
spectacularly. These are hefty tomes, with the slimmest weighing in at
nearly six hundred pages, and they had scanned and proofed all three of
them. With all the wealth we receive from Publishers, I never, ever wanna
forget our incredible, irreplaceable volunteers. I can not overstate how
incredible it was to just immediately, with no fuss or bother, have access
to highly scholarly works in the Bookshare library. Am sending both of
y'all--and all the other volunteers quietly working away to f
ill the gaps Publishers leave open--right now.
