Yes, Cindy, it is expensive but Kurzweil often have some excellent trade-ins and they also give the program to all scholarship winners at both national conventions. Their tech support is also excellent and these technicians monitor and respond to questions on their list. I admit that occasionally Kurzwweil does something that baffles me in their program but probably if I read the manual more carefully, I would understand the problem. This is absolutely my favorite company with products for the blind in case you hadn't guessed. Jill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Grandma Cindy" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx>

Thanks, Jill. No, I didn't understand that at all, so
thank you for explaining. I've received the
impression that it's auite expensive, so I assumed it
was a scanner with an OCR program as part of it, like
my Epson and its Fine Reader. I think my husband
bought my second one for around $100, but I don't
think the Fine Reader is as complete as it could be.
It's functional enough for my purposes, but the one I
had before did more pages at once; when I tried to
find out more I was told my is a brief program and I'd
have to be the one that does more.

Cindy, In case you are a little confused, Kurzweil
is a program, not a
scanner. In fact, they (Kurzweil) have a list of
recommended scanners and
the Epson ones are at the top. However, the program
that comes with the
scanner doesn't give the blind user anywhere near
the features we get with
Kurzweil. If you already understood this, just
disregard the above. Jill
