I can give you part of the story of the life of Girl with a Pearl Earring.
the original submitter, if on this list, would have to give some info, and E
will have to provide the story of it's existance after my submit. <g>

I downloaded it from the collection quite a while ago just to read it. i
had no intention of editing it, but found that there were 17 pages of a book
set in the 20th century in Australia in the middle of the file instead of 17
pages from Girl with a Pearl Earring, which is set in Delft Holland in the
1600s. lol
I really had to fix that, so I got the book and scanned in those pages.
While I was at it I fixed some other stuff, but didn't reread the book to
fix all the mistakes. The file was actually very weird, with weird end
quotes everywhere instead of normal quotes, and problems with returns and
spaces missing or present where they shouldn't have been. I wonder what
made the original file. I edited by making the daisy file I read in
Kurzweil into an rtf. I think that was in Kurzweil version 7, and I didn't
know enough to resave in word after editing at that time.
I just know that page breaks were present, and E said the book was fine when
it left her BN. She will have to give you the more recent and important
editing and conversion history. :-)

I don't have any use for wordpad, but I agree that it hasn't ever damaged
anything of mine, unless it was wordpad and not my braille note that caused
one file to develop linebreaks where they didn't exist before editing. grrr!
