Thank you. Omitting such material did seem out of keeping but I haven't been here long enough to be sure. With the Kurzweil I found all I had to do was user chooses page number (or some such) and put the page no. 1 of the book as the page # 1 for the scan and everything before becomes preliminary page numbers. When working with wordperfect and/or word pad I had to do it every time I opened the program but Kurzweil only once(usually). Is that what you meant ?
still an omst looking for her majexty's cats.

E and everyone didn't mean to get rid of front matter. They were explaining
how to get Kurzweil to number pages in a certain way to make it easier to
edit files. This method wouldn't cause the removal of the front matter--in
fact, E and almost everyone else on this list including me are all totally
obsessed with having access to everything the print books contain;
prologues, contents, bibs, footnotes, endnotes, references, and everything
in between. In fact, this list has been fondly referred to as the asylum
for deranged perfectionists. <big grin>
I hope this explains things,
