Rhonda and I kayaked the Blue Licks to Mouth of Cedar stretch of the Licking River again on Sunday. It really didn't resemble July with cool conditions and a muddy river; we didn't have any trouble with progress. There was nothing unusual to report. The Parulas and Yellow-throated Warblers were still singing as much as ever, but others were quite. The herons appeared to have had a very successful breeding season to this point with numerous doubles in many nest. Quite a few were capable of flying, but some were still had some growing to do. The Catbirds won the most vocal bird of the day. Flowers of note: a very impressive stand of obedient plant, tall bellflower, pale touch-me-not, and whorled loosestrife.
