A quick trip to Horntown Rd in Grayson County didn't disappoint. We saw 110 sandhill cranes and 2 harriers en route. On arriving at the usual owl site, we saw seven harriers and three short-eared owls quartering over the same long-grass field. Turning off the car, some of them passed quite close. We could hear the scratchy owl calls as they flew next to the car. Red-winged blackbirds and meadowlarks were singing their brains out in the mild evening air.
