This is the Kentucky Bird Line, sponsored by the Kentucky Ornithological
Society. This update is current as of October 5, 2002 at 8:00 PM EDT. The
highlights of this update are 2 Sooty Terns at Kentucky Dam.

2 Sooty Terns were located above Kentucky Dam yesterday about 4:30 PM CDT.
The birds were observed from the pull-offs on the dam. They were quite far
out, ranged from ½ mile to 1 mile from the dam. They were observed there
for quite some time. Later in the evening, a Sooty Tern was observed from
the Big Bear Boat Ramp. It is not known if this was an additional Sooty
Tern or one of those from the dam that had moved.

Sooty Terns were also located at Pace Point in Tennessee yesterday so this
species might be found on any large body of water today or over the next few
days. We can apparently thank Hurricane Lille for these birds.

Thanks for calling the Kentucky Bird Line. You may leave a report after the
tone. Please include your name, the date, the location, and the time of
your observation when filing a report. If your report contains rare or out
of season species, please send appropriate documentation to the
