On a walk around the farm today I found a dead Cooper Hawk laying in 10 inch
tall grass inside the open entrance to my old tobacco barn. The tobacco barn has
no doors and both ends are wide open.
The hawk had not been harmed as far as I could tell, no cuts, no marks of any
kind or pulled or torn feathers. This is 1000 ft. from a highway. The bird had
not been dead long. It was a beautiful bird.
I went back to the house and Shari and I with a Sibley plus shovel returned to
the barn and buried the Cooper in our pet cemetery and stacked concrete blocks
over the grave so animals cannot disturb.
