Waterfowl were very abundant especially Canada Geese which numbered in the many, many thousands on both sides of the road. It would be interesting to know the total number throughout the refuge. There was some open water with large numbers of ducks. Highlights of the day included: 25 TUNDRA SWANS 60+ Gr. Wh.-fronted 2 Snow Geese Am. Black Duck Many Mallards Northern Pintail Northern Shoveler American Wigeon Canvasback Redhead 100+ Ring-necked Ducks. Ended the day on the Sinclair Unit of the Peabody WMA watching Northern Harriers and watching and listening to at least 2 Short-eared Owls. It was the first time I have heard them "bark" at one another. Interesting sound!
