We counted 49 species this weekend. Our previous highs for this weekend were 
46, 46, and 47 in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Sparrows continue to be the big thing, here.  We counted 11 species for the 
weekend, 10 of them just today, including our first-of-year Vesper.  Shortly 
after 8:00 AM, I found a flock of Sparrows picking crushed grain along the 
road, near the house, which included Chipping, Field, Savannah, and the Vesper. 
 I Flickr posted a photo that includes a Chipping and Vesper.  There were at 
least three Juncos here, today, including one very-brown individual.  I saw 
Juncos picking grain along the road, earlier. 
Other highlights included at least two Tree Swallows, which passed through 
yesterday, our FOS Purple Finch, yesterday  (photo link follows), and the 
Loggerhead Shrike, which I saw, late today, hunting the same distant fencerow 
as last Sunday.  
I first reported the Harlan’s Hawk on Friday evening, and it was visible 
literally all weekend.  Before sunrise, this morning, I watched the silhouettes 
of two big buteos chasing each other around the Harlan’s “home” tower.  I 
couldn’t tell who was who in the low light, but they’re obviously still sorting 
out who is going to own what territory, over there.  There’s at least 1,000 
acres of mostly-open farm country around the towers, most of it in standing 
beans, bean stubble or sprouting grain.  It must be worth fighting for.
