About 400 Sandhill Cranes on the ground in Lucas (Barren County) this
afternoon. Cloudy, gusty winds, and temp about 70 degrees, seemed to be
keeping them on the ground. If you want to see them, you will need good
binoculars or scope as they usually stay a far distance from the road and blend
in with the cut corn stalks. There seems to be a greater amount of immature
birds this year. Now may be a good time to see them before the hunt is
started. Last year it was difficult to find a field of them that could be
viewed from the road after hunting season.
