Today a pair of Ring-necked Ducks continued to hang out with the regulars at
Big 739 Pond. Also still there, a lone Black-bellied Plover. I posted a picture
I got of it last time at http://www.lyneart.com/THOUGHTS.HTM
Other shorebirds there today - Semi-palmated Plover, Semi-palmated Sandpiper,
Spotted Sandpiper, Dunlin and Killdeer.
Corn has already made the approach to the small pond difficult, but the big
pond has a grass waterway across the road from the gravel drive. At the end of
the waterway, corn rows are aligned with the route to the pond and are drowned
out after about a hundred feet, so the pond should remain accessible after the
corn gets big. Water is still higher than it was after last year's May 1 flood
and last year the pond persisted to almost mid July.
