11/28/2008: At the risk of repeating, I post this note from a birder in Southern Illinois regarding Whooping Cranes and their southward migration. The message involves the state of reference for "Union County". Here is the notation. "As of this morning, 11/26, this years batch of whooping crane fledglings were heading south from their stop-over spot in Piatt County to their next stop-over spot in Cumberland County (IL). From there they will fly to a stop-over spot in Wayne County (IL) then on to a stop-over spot in Union County Kentucky [not Union County Illinois as reported in the Anna(?) "Monday's Pub" newspaper on 11/17]. This Union County Kentucky stop-over spot is somewhere east of Shawneetown, IL, near where Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky come together." Of course, this Union County is the one just southwest of Henderson County and Northeast of Crittenden County in Western Kentucky. If this has been previously posted, I regret the duplication.
