04 September 2011: I dropped by Guthrie swamp this afternoon on my way home from Metropolis. I scanned quickly and did not spend time searching as a thunderstorm approached and lightening was quite near. Observed were the following birds of note: Blue-winged Teal, ~100, Northeast impoundment Northern Shoveler, 3, Northeast Impoundment Double-crested Cormorant, 2, South Impoundments Great Blue Heron, 4, South Impoundments Great Egret, 2, Northeast Impoundments Least Sandpiper, 4, Northeast Impoundments Forster's Tern, 7, South Impoundments This report ignores resident Canada Geese, killdeer and a flock of mixed swallows which were present but not counted or otherwise examined. That concludes this report.
