Our Lake Barkley osprey camera nest is apparently being raided by a great
horned owl (GHO). Night before last a chick went missing. At dusk yesterday two
of the three chicks were doing well in the nest. Last evening a second osprey
chick went missing. Most likely the third chick will be taken tonight. Today
may unfortunately be the last day to view our "active" osprey nest this viewing
season: http://keepky.org/html/nest_cam_1_live_stream.html ;

The osprey platform is about 50 yds. from a mature oak/hickory forest. The
platform was placed where it is due to this pair of ospreys attempting to
nest just above high voltage powerlines. If the platform were removed, the
osprey pair would very likely attempt to nest above the dangerous powerlines
again unless the ghos take over the platform as they did the previous nesting
season.
