Eastern Kingbirds have arrived on fences and snags around Calloway County. Blood River was teaming with activity this afternoon with Least and Pectoral Sandpipers, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs. Three Bald Eagles continue to scare the Gadwall, Shovelers,Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal. Forster's Terns are in all forms of plumage, Bonaparte's are sporting pretty black heads and Adult Herring and Ring-billed gulls are becoming scarce. On Saturday I drove to Morgan's Pond to check on habitat. At the edge of the field there is a sign that reads: This Farm has been Riddled in the name of Progress by the Corp of Engineers. Flooding. damaged crops. avigational essement. The entire field has a beautiful crop of winter wheat and there is NO shorebird habitat.
