Generally speaking, the bulk of Ruby-throats are gone by Oct 1, but
stragglers (mostly young of the year) are usually seen by lots of
people until the 15th to 20th. Personally, I've dropped from dozens
in August to September to one lone young male at my house the last
three days. Last year, I saw my last one at home October 16th.

As a reminder, I would like to ask everyone to keep in mind that as
our Ruby-throats leave for warmer climates, rarities become easier to
pick out simply because they become the only birds present. Brainard
Palmer-Ball and I, as Kentucky's representatives of the Hummingbird
Study Group, a non-profit organization whose goal is to sufficiently
document all non Ruby-throated Hummingbirds west of the Mississippi,
we'd certainly like anyone that knows of ANY hummingbirds past
November 1 to notify the listserve, or us personally offline if you'd
prefer, so that any out of season or rare hummingbird can be properly
documented. Many young males and females of different species can be
too similar to notice a difference, so keep this in mind as you see
these late season birds.
