Just a little info about the corrupted emails from hotmail addresses.
The problem is caused by a mismatch between email settings used when sending
messages to the group and email settings used by the listserve when it forwards
the messages to the members of the group. This is a problem with all listserves
I’ve been on. The usual remedy is to admonish all members to only use plain
text when posting to the group. Don’t use html, don’t send images, don’t use
any non-english language characters in the body of the emai, don’t use any
special fonts or colored text. hotmail should have the ability to set email to
plain text.
Technically the problem with the email this morning and others from hotmail is
that hotmail encodes the message using base64. When I look at the ‘Possible
Red-naped Sapsucker’ message from this morning using Apple Mail on my Mac I see
the plain text of the message and then three lines of junk. What I don’t see is
the normal ‘NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS’ section. When I look at the raw email I see
the base64-encoded message from the author and I see the ‘NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS’
section in plain text. The email header says that it's using base64. The three
lines of junk is the ‘NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS’ section decoded as if it were
base64.
If hotmail users can use plain text this problem should be minimized.
Another option would be for hotmail users to use gmail instead. It’s also a
free email service.
One other option would be to have a moderator that rejects emails that don’t
meet the rules of the group or edits the emails before they are sent out to the
subscribers.

The intent of this post is two-fold ....
FIRST ... regarding posts to BIRDKY from "hotmail" accounts like Ronan's ...
posts to BIRDKY from hotmail accounts (L. Craiger, J. Snyder, and R. O'Carra
that I am currently aware of) come up as "blank" or for me with the "corrupt
contents" message you see below for some or many listserv members. They *DO*
seem to come up on smart phones, but they are either omitted or present
without text in Freelists archive, too.
This is probably another Freelists screening issue (similar to the "dmarc-no
reply" issues we have, but if posters with hotmail accounts want to make sure
their posts to BIRDKY get to folks with computers (at least some computers),
they might want to post from a different account???
I have no idea how to fix such a thing, but just wanted folks to be aware of
it.
