Thought I would add a couple of species seen in the DBNF on top of what Brian had reported from Friday. Stratton Hatfield, Roseanna Denton, and myself birded various locations in the DBNF on the east side of Cave Run and the entirety of Zilpo Road on the west side of Cave Run. A total of 16 species of warblers were recorded, tons of Tennessee, Black-and-whites, Magnolias, and Bay-breasted. We were also able to record all the woodpecker species minus Sapsucker on Zilpo Road. Most red-headed woodpeckers I have seen in a while. The lake itself was dead with no gulls, terns, or waterbirds. Minor Clark was also almost devoid of shorebirds with only Killdeer, a single Semipalmated Plover, 3 Semi Sandpipers, 3 Least, and 8 Pectorals. Highlights of the trip included: Golden-winged Warbler- 1 female off Zilpo Road Wilson's Warbler- 2 one on the southeastern side of Cave Run one at the Walnut Grove at Minor Clark Worm-eating Warbler Philadelphia Vireo- 4 individuals Rose-breasted Grosbeak- between 12-16 individuals Veery A few birds of note in Madison County the past couple of days. Had a Black-crowned Night-Heron on Friday morning at Wilgreen. Best bird of the weekend was a Merlin that was passing over the horse pasture next to my house this afternoon.
