We had a cold but enjoyable day birding in Hart Co yesterday. Highlights included 28 rusty blackbirds and 5000 robins. White-crowned sparrow and red-headed woodpecker numbers continue to increase annually. Big misses included Canada geese and both accipiters. sk _____ Date: 12-22-2008 Location: Hart Co, KY Starting temp: 2 deg F Ending: 27 deg F great blue heron 1 mallard 1 black vulture 16 turkey vulture 1 red-shouldered hawk 1 red-tailed hawk 16 kestrel 23 killdeer 7 sandhill crane 2 rock pigeon 72 mourning dove 140 screech owl 3 barred owl 2 kingfisher 2 red-headed woodpecker 14 red-bellied woodpecker 10 yellow-bellied sapsucker 2 downy 9 hairy 1 flicker 15 pileated woodpecker 6 phoebe 2 blue jay 76 crow 153 chickadee 23 titmouse 24 white-breasted nuthatch 11 brown creeper 2 carolina wren 17 bluebird 72 ruby-crowned kinglet 1 robin 5000 hermit thrush 7 brown thrasher 2 mockingbird 23 l. shrike 1 waxwing 24 starling 800 yellow-rumped warbler 63 cardinal 43 towhee 7 field sparrow 53 song sparrow 205 fox sparrow 2 swamp sparrow 14 white-crowned sparrow 43 white-throated sparrow 48 red-winged blackbird 65 rusty blackbird 28 junco 36 meadowlark 64 goldfinch 42 purple finch 4 house finch 4 house sparrow 51 Total individuals 7354 Total species 55
