Thirteen American Avocets at farm pond in Logan County. They were on the ground
when I first saw them while driving to that place with my nephew for work
related reasons. When I returned they were in the air because the cows had
taken the spot where they had been wading. They circled until I gave up and put
my equipment back in the truck, then they all lit. My nephew pulled up with a
wagon load of tobacco sticks before my hands quit trembling. I snapped off
several horrible but recognizable pictures before I opened the gate for him.
Soon the Avocets were up again. The exact location of this pond is pinpointed
on the map for the picture of a Great Egret I posted earlier on the KOS flickr
page. It's on the Orndorf Mill Road 1 mile NE of Dot. The Great Egret is still
there too.
