I went to Spindletop this morning hoping to find an unusual sparrow, I didn't.
There were a few Song and Swamp but a lot of Savannah. Earlier in the week
there were still Grasshopper Sparrows and Bobolink.
I got a good look at the Merlin. It flew over a newly plowed field sending a
flock of small birds into the air. After he left I checked the field and found
a flock of Horned Lard with a few Lapland Longspurs mixed in. This is the
earliest that I have seen Longspurs.
The gates were open.
