Joe Swanson & I went out to the Anchorage Trail on Wednesday looking for fall
warblers. The day started well with Joe hearing a Screech-Owl when he got out
of
the car to pick me up at my place out in Scott Co. We got out on the trail by
8:20, but only found one warbler, a Yellow Warbler. However, we did see several
hummers and Gnatcatchers along with a lot of the summer residents. At one point
I was trying to get Joe on a Green Heron and he kept calling it a Great Blue.
We
each thought the other was crazy until we figured out both were there separated
by only a little.
We then went over to Falls of the Ohio, to see if we could find some of the
shorebirds reported, but struck out there as well. Did get a good look at a
Peregrine however. He landed on the fossil beds and hung out for quite a while.
Ended the day by finding a Prairie Warbler down at the pond in the backyard
back
at home. Sometimes you don't have to travel very far to see some good stuff.
