Hi all. Okay, just got my version 10 of k1000 today so I wqill play with
this too. UNtil this point, I have converted my scanned books into text
format and used the bc transfer tool to move the text files. It seemed to
be hit and miss whether the page changes from the original scan were
reflected won the bc when using page navigation commands which I use all the
time.
I will play with version 10 of k1000 over the next day or so and report back
Brian.
Hi Katie:
Here goes for my answers to your questions.
-----Original Message----- From: betabookcourier-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:betabookcourier-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Katie Walker Sent: October 24, 2005 3:56 PM To: betabookcourier@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [betabookcourier] Re: More BC and K1000
1. What version of K1000 are you using? If you are using version 10, do you have the fix pack?
I'm using version 8.02
2. Can you transfer files from K1000 to BC using the KES format? If yes,
are there navigation problems with these files?
No, can't do this but used to be able to do so.This capability stopped for some unknown reason a while back leaving me only with the option to transfer in text format. When I was able to transfer KES format, I do recall that navigation was not good at all even for sentences. BC would only read partial sentences in this mode.
3. Can you transfer files from K1000 to BC using the TXT format? Can you
navigate properly on BC?
Yes, this works and navigation is good for word and sentence but not so for paragraph and page.
4. If you save a KES file as a text file within K1000 and then transfer that text file to BC using the Transfer Tool, does it work and are there
any navigation problems?
Yes, I've done this just of late and in fact it does provide for much better navigation in all modes from word up to page mode. So, indeed this seems to be a remedy; just requires creation of another file specifically for the transfer to BC. I can live with this.
I will be updating to K1000 version 10 in near future. Can you tell me what the 'intended' difference/advantage there was in having the choice of text or KES formats for transfer to BC?

John and Mike,
It sounds like you are the only testers with K1000. Here are a few questions that will help us get to the bottom of the transfer issues:
1. What version of K1000 are you using? If you are using version 10, do you have the fix pack? 2. Can you transfer files from K1000 to BC using the KES format? If yes,
are there navigation problems with these files? 3. Can you transfer files from K1000 to BC using the TXT format? Can you
navigate properly on BC? 4. If you save a KES file as a text file within K1000 and then transfer that text file to BC using the Transfer Tool, does it work and are there
any navigation problems?
I think you've both answered some of these questions so far, so I apologize for asking you to repeat the information. But we really need to be more systematic in order to get to the root of the various problems.
Thanks, Katie

On doing some testing in transfering files into BC, files that have originated through scanning them into K1000, I've discovered that when one uses the text format within K1000 versus the KES format, this does not provide for very accurate navigating beyond sentence and word navigation in BC. However, when I converted the K1000 file by actually saving it as a text file and then transferred this file into BC using the transfer tool, I am then able to navigate using paragraph and page navigation in BC which seems to follow the original document much better. As I said however if I use the dialog box within K1000 which allows me to choose between either TEXT or KES format, choosing text format does not produce the same results as I've mentioned above.
For anyone who's not familiar with this interplay between K1000 and BC I hope I'm not confusing you too much. Anyway, I've discovered one way to improve my BC navigation and with these K1000 files and that for me is a good thing. I'm not sure if this could have been done without this
newer Beta version.
