That Green Heron is a nice find Daryl. That's only the 9th sighting we have on record for the county. Lots of good birds were seen and heard including Black-th. Green Warbler, Yellow-th. Warbler, Dark-eyed Juncos, Carolina Chickadees and Song Sparrows. We walked away from the tracks once over into a field where there is a marshy area and flushed a small water bird. It flew into a tree about thirty yards away and when I got my binos on it got my very first look at an amazingly beautiful Green Heron! Another totally unexpected life bird. Also found a threesome of Northern Flickers busily courting around a utility pole. Near the top of the utility pole was a freshly excavated nest cavity. Thought it odd to find that in a utility pole and it wasn't an old pole rather a fairly new one. I will take pictures of it later since it is easy to locate. Has anyone ever seen Flickers use a utility pole like this before? Daryl Owens, Dismal River, VA
