After talking about Whip-poor-wills in an earlier post I remembered that I
had some photos of a Whip-poor-will that had landed in some gravel at our
house in 2011. If you have never seen a Whip-poor-will or have not seen one
recently here are a couple of photos.
Remember these birds are about 8 to 10 inches long. Those long hair-like
projections along the side of its head called rictal bristles work like a
cat's whiskers. They help it get around in the dark.
