Four members (Don Carrier, Mike Sanders, and Jane & Jerry Thornhill) of the Russell County Bird Club made the trek to the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina to participate in the Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO) annual field trip to this area. They were rewarded with a three day list of 112 species, many of which are unusual and some of which were life birds. We saw all three scoter species, lots of other duck species including close looks at Harlequin Ducks, Short-eared Owls, and several warbler species including Pine, Orange-crowned, and Common Yellowthroat. We had a great time and would recommend the trip to anyone. A complete report with pictures and the complete trip list can be found on the club web site at www.rcbirds.org under the trip reports link. Jerry Thornhill RCBC
