Hi All,

At our last BCBC meeting on Nov 9 we discussed these upcoming events:

BCBC members will once again take part in the Thanksgiving Day Bird Count or Window Watch. Each participant chooses a spot around his/her feeders, bird bath, a section of a backyard, etc. and imagines a 15 foot circle surrounding it. The counter then keeps count of the highest number of any species that enter that circle or fly over it for an hour or longer. This info is then mailed to Thelma Dalmas of Lynchburg, VA. If you particpated in the past you should soon receive a birding form in the mail from Thelma. If you have not particpated before or just want to learn more about the Window Watch Count you can go to the VSO fall 2009 newsletter at http://www.virginiabirds.net/VSO_PDFs/VSO_Nwsltr_FA09.pdf Scroll down to page 7 to read about the count and to see a copy of the birding form. If you have trouble printing the form contact me and I will send you a printable copy by email.

The annual BCBC Christmas party will be held on Dec 14 at the Peking Restaurant at the Grundy Plaza at 6:00 p.m.

Bring a bird related gift that costs around $5.00 and join the group for an enjoyable evening. We will have dinner first (each buys his/her own), then we will open gifts, but with a little fun twist to the process. Join us for a fun evening.

The second Buchanan County Christmas Bird Count will take place on Dec 19. We appreciate the help of you birders who were part of the count last year and got our count off to a good start. We hope that you can participate again this year. We need all of the help we can get to cover our 15 mile circle. Please contact me if you plan to participate.

Our many thanks to Tom Hunter for taking on the job of count compiler. Michelle Talbott was the compiler last year but has now moved to Richmond, KY.

Come out and take part in all of these events and have fun with a great bunch of birders.
