I'll answer this on the list so others, who may be interested will see it.
The only area in Buchanan County I'm aware of, where a Black Vulture might
be seen, is in the Breaks area. By the Breaks area I'm referring to the
community and not to the Breaks Park, which is mostly in Dickenson County
and Pike County KY.
David Raines, who lives in the Breaks, sees them occasionally. He may be
able to shed more light on his sightings. Black Vultures are more often seen
in Dickenson County. That may be why they sometimes show up just across the
county line in the Breaks area of Buchanan.
In the 36 years I have lived on Compton Mt on the opposite side of Buchanan
County from the Breaks, I have never seen a Black Vulture here. As far as
our records show no one else has either. On the other hand Turkey Vultures
are found all over Buchanan County and are a common sight.

We have seen turkey and black vultures
in Russell County this winter. We have observed them
quite consistently in the Clifton farm area at the
end of the Clifton Farm Road before the junction of
Routes 540 and 770. My unscientific and amateur
opinion is that some are wintering here because of the
mild winter.
What is your opinion?
