David, I intended to reply to this post sooner but got sidetracked. I was just looking at our BCBC database, and I was surprised to learn that we have no records of Swainson's Warblers in the county past June. In fact the latest date we have is for June 23, 1986. That was one that you found on the Prospector's Trail in the Breaks Park. Of course it's possbile you or someone else might have a July record for one that I don't have in the database. Congratulations on finding this one in September! You would think that as many warblers as we see each fall at your place and mine, that one of us would have seen one during migration, but so far it hasn't happened. We were very surprised when @ 7:30 we heard a Swainson's Warbler sing from an area near this year's territory. I don't believe I've ever heard one in August or September here in Breaks before. In fact, fall records for Swainson's Warbler are hard to come by . Anyone have any to share? Dave R/Breaks VA
