The brown thrasher presented himself to us yesterday... the timing of which
seems a little early but we’ve had a comparatively mild winter so...
Typically he’ll hang around until a mate shows up and then promptly disappear
then re-emerges mid summer...
but the phoebes act in a similar manner too so maybe it’s not so unusual

The birds here on Compton Mountain are gearing up for the breeding season. The
Brown Thrasher that appeared here about a month and a half ago now has a mate
following him around the yard. The Eastern Bluebirds are checking out the
nest boxes, and a pair of Tree Swallows have been going in and out of the
nest box near our yard pond.
The Mockingbird that has been here all winter has started singing. It will be
interesting to see if it sings in a mate. They haven't had much luck with
that in the past. After a couple of weeks with no success the male usually
moves on to some other location.
