This evening Lynda and I heard a thump against our glass dining room door.
When we went to look we found a small (about 10 inches long) male
Sharp-shinned Hawk on the ground just outside the door with a male
Brown-headed Cowbird in its talons. In this photo you can see the brown head
and black body of the cowbird.
After a couple of minutes the hawk took to the air and headed to the woods
with its prey.
Here is a frame taken from my security camera footage as the bird lifted
into the air.
