The Russell County Bird Club held it's January field trip to Elk Garden, Corn
Valley and Clifton areas on January 16th. Although the skies were overcast
and the temperature was chilly at times we had a great day for raptors.The
highlights included 2 Golden Eagles on a high voltage electrical transmission
tower near Stuarts Pond, 4 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Northern Harrier, 14
Red-tailed Hawks, 6 American Kestrels and 5 Loggerhead Shrikes (honorary
raptors). The group located a total of 41 species including a flock of 30
Horned Larks.
Participants were Fred and Janice Martin(it was great to have Fred and Janice
back birding with us), Dave and Diane Worley, Peggy Herbert, Jessica Duty, Don
Carrier, Mike Sanders and Tom Hunter. Many thanks to Jessica Duty and Mike
Sanders for keeping a trip list.
