In the past week or so I have seen several bird species in our yard or yard
stream. The most surprising was an adult male Rose-breasted Grosbeak near
one of our feeders. Since they nest at higher elevations I suppose they have
finished nesting and have come down from the higher mountains, and are
moving around in search of food. I have attached a photo of the bird, but I
apologize for the quality since I took it through a window, which often
destroys a sharp focus. Other species seen, aside from the regulars, were
Kentucky Warbler, Scarlet Tanagers, (see photo) Black-and-white Warbler,
Hooded Warbler, (see photo) Worm-eating Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler,
Yellow Warbler, Indigo Bunting and around 20 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. I
think all of these are probably birds that are moving around looking for
food, and they won't start their migration south until later, toward the end
of August.
