Yesterday, May 5, Laverne and I went to the Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve in Russell County, VA to prepare for the bird walk this weekend. As soon as we stepped out of the vehicle we had Northern Parula, Louisiana Waterthrush, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Pheobe and several other birds singing. As we walked along the trail we had 4 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, 2 Scarlet Tanagers(very close with several more signing), at least 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, several more Northern Parula, a Yellow-rumped Warbler, Wood Thrush, Acadian Flycatcher, Great-crested Flycatcher, Hooded Warbler, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher. I was back there later in the day with the Friends of the Pinnacle to work on some of the trails and I saw another Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Indigo Bunting, Hairy Woodpecker and heard more Louisiana Waterthrushes. It was a great day birding. |
