For those interested the annual Perseid Meteor shower taking place for the
next couple of nights could be spectacular. There will be no moonlight to
wash out the meteors. According to Sky and Telescope Magazine tonight could
be the best viewing conditions since 2010 with the possibility of seeing 100
meteors per hour. The gravitational pull of Jupiter is tugging at the comet
dust that makes the meteors and pulling it closer to Earth's path which
could make the meteor shower better than normal. The best viewing time is
between midnight and dawn.
A few years ago within a few hours I personally counted over a thousand
meteors.
